Rabat — Tangier police arrested a man early Sunday morning after he insulted and tried to physically assault a female police officer on duty. Video of the incident spread widely across social media platforms.
The attack happened early in the morning while the officer performed her duties in a public space, according to local sources.
The 46-year-old man was drunk and under the influence of drugs when he approached the officer, hurled insults at her, and attempted to attack her. Citizens nearby stepped in to stop him from harming her.
The suspect fought back strongly when police tried to arrest him. He stabbed himself multiple times during the arrest, which forced officers to take him to the regional hospital for medical treatment.
A security official said the man not only tried to assault the police officer but also verbally and physically attacked two civil protection agents who came to help him.
Initial investigation findings show the suspect had already fought with another person using a knife before this incident occurred.
Police know both men for their criminal records. Authorities placed both suspects in custody under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office to determine exactly what happened and what crimes they committed.
People filmed parts of the assault and shared the videos widely on social media networks.
The incident reflects ongoing challenges police officers face while serving the public, particularly female officers working in urban areas.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events that led to the violent confrontation.
