Major airport expansion contracts awarded for Marrakech and Agadir under Morocco’s 2030 Strategy – The North Africa Post

Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) has awarded contracts worth 4.4 billion dirhams for major expansion projects at Marrakech-Menara and Agadir Al-Massira airports, advancing the kingdom’s strategic infrastructure development plan to accommodate growing aviation demands.

Jet Contractors secured the Marrakech-Menara expansion contract valued at 2.2 billion dirhams. The project will enlarge the passenger terminal to 142,000 square meters, increasing annual capacity from nine million to sixteen million travelers. This significant expansion positions Marrakech’s airport to handle the sustained growth in tourist arrivals to Morocco’s premier cultural destination.

The Agadir Al-Massira project, also valued at 2.2 billion dirhams, was awarded to Société Générale des Travaux du Maroc (SGTM). The comprehensive development includes terminal extension and reorganization to boost capacity from three million to seven million passengers annually. Additional infrastructure improvements encompass road networks and exterior facilities to support increased traffic flow.

Both projects form integral components of Morocco’s national “Airports 2030” strategy, unveiled by ONDA to modernize and expand airport capabilities across the kingdom. The initiative responds to sustained aviation traffic growth and positions Morocco as a regional hub for air travel between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

ONDA Director General Adel El Fakir announced during the strategy’s February presentation that all airport projects would be completed before 2028, except for Casablanca’s facility, whose completion is scheduled for 2029. The accelerated timeline reflects Morocco’s commitment to infrastructure development ahead of major international events and tourism growth targets.

These investments align with Morocco’s broader economic vision, enhancing connectivity to support tourism, trade, and investment flows. The expanded facilities will incorporate modern technologies and improved passenger services, meeting international standards while accommodating projected traffic increases through the next decade.
