Two men wanted in connection with the violent escape of French inmate Mohamed Amra have been extradited from Morocco to France, French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said.
Alan Gomes, 28, and Albinou Da Sylva, 38, were arrested in Morocco in February, just one day after Amra was captured in Romania following nine months on the run.
Both men were the subject of Interpol red notices and are suspected of playing key roles in the deadly ambush that freed Amra in May 2024.
“They will be brought before a judge shortly and held accountable for their actions,” Darmanin said on social media platform X, thanking Moroccan authorities for their swift cooperation. “A big thank you to our Moroccan friends, especially my counterpart in the Justice Ministry, for making this operation possible so quickly.”
Gomes is believed to have been part of the armed commando that attacked a prison transport van at the Incarville toll station in central France, killing two prison officers and seriously injuring three others. The two suspects fled to Morocco after the attack. Both are originally from Évreux, the same town as Amra, who is also known by the nickname “La Mouche” (The Fly).
The May 14 ambush triggered a massive investigation, resulting in charges against at least 41 individuals, 30 of whom remain in pre-trial detention. Authorities deployed extensive resources to track down suspects, including several who had fled abroad.
Amra was eventually arrested on February 22 in Bucharest, Romania, ending a months-long international manhunt.
