Morocco’s King offers Algeria face-saving exit! – The North Africa Post

The Throne Day speech delivered Tuesday by King Mohammed VI sends Algerian regime a clear message of peace and openness to dialogue to settle differences hampering the development of bilateral relations and affecting the Arab Maghreb Union.

It is the fourth outreach diplomatic move made by the Monarch to open up a new chapter in the two countries’ relations. The King had called on the Algerian rulers to normalize relations between the two neighbours in his Throne Day speeches of 2021, 2022 and 2023. But unfortunately, the royal calls of reconciliation fell on deaf ears. Instead of responding positively to the royal wise initiatives, the lunatic Algerian authorities chose escalation. They unilaterally cut diplomatic ties with Rabat, closed airspace to all Moroccan aircrafts, halted a gas pipeline and engaged in a warmongering rhetoric.

The land border between the two countries has already been closed since 1994 at the behest of the Algerian regime after Morocco imposed visas on Algerian nationals following the deadly terrorist attack committed against a hotel in Marrakech by Algerian operatives.

This July 2025, the King of Morocco has reached out to Algeria for the fourth time showing the royal perspicacity, statesmanship and patience. He told Algerians Morocco remains ready for frank, responsible, fraternal, and sincere dialogue on the various pending issues between the two countries.

He also said that he is reaching out to brothers in Algeria because he firmly believes in the unity of the Moroccan and Algerian peoples and in their ability to overcome together obstacles and ease mounting tensions.

Despite the Algerian hostile campaigns, the Monarch continues to describe Algerians as brothers saying: “My position, as the King of Morocco, is as clear as it is consistent: the Algerian people are our brothers and sisters; they share deep-rooted human and historical ties with the Moroccan people. The bonds of language, religion, geography, and a common destiny unite us.”

The King has also reaffirmed commitment to the Maghreb Union, stressing that the regional bloc “cannot exist without the involvement of Morocco and Algeria, alongside the remaining sister countries concerned.”

The Moroccan monarch has lauded the growing international support for the Autonomy plan as the only solution to the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. The steadfast supportive stand of the international community upholds the Kingdom’s legitimate rights, leaving the Algerian regime cornered with its Polisario militias.

To help foes avoid suffering the biggest geopolitical setbacks over the Sahara issue and bring them to the negotiating table, the Moroccan King said he is looking forward to finding “a consensual solution – a solution with neither winner nor loser; a face-saving solution for all parties.”

The new royal outreach initiative puts more pressure on the Algerian regime as it comes following the collapse of Iran’s Axis of Resistance, Maghreb tour of Trump’s advisor Massad Boulos, the U.S. Congress legislation designating Polisario terrorist organization and the international push to resolve definitely the Sahara issue this year.

But will the Algerian regime grab this new lifeline opportunity or choose driving the country into a deep abyss?
