Maroc Telecom Surpasses 80 Million Subscribers Amid Fierce Competition – The North Africa Post

    adminJuly 24, 2025

Morocco’s leading telecommunications operator Maroc Telecom has crossed a significant milestone, reporting over 80 million subscribers in the first half of 2025, marking a 2.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The growth comes despite what the company described as a “highly competitive and regulated market environment,” with subsidiary operations driving expansion through a 3.7 percent increase in their combined customer bases across nine African countries.
In Morocco, the operator’s mobile segment reached 18.93 million clients, while fixed-line services exceeded 1.6 million lines and broadband subscriptions surpassed 1.4 million users. These domestic figures reflect steady growth in a mature market where competition remains intense among major operators.
International operations proved crucial to overall performance, with mobile customers reaching 57.50 million across African subsidiaries. Burkina Faso leads with 12.21 million subscribers, followed by Côte d’Ivoire (11.96 million), Mali (8.43 million), Chad (7.26 million), and Benin (5.54 million). Niger, Mauritania, Gabon, and Central African Republic collectively contribute another 8.5 million customers.
The subscriber growth contrasts with financial performance challenges. In 2024, Maroc Telecom reported a slight 0.4 percent decline in net profit despite consolidated revenue reaching $3.67 billion, up 1.2 percent. The revenue growth was primarily driven by Moov Africa subsidiaries, which posted a robust 4.6 percent increase.
The results underscore Maroc Telecom’s strategic focus on African markets for growth, offsetting competitive pressures in its home market. As telecommunications penetration deepens across Africa, the company’s extensive footprint positions it to capitalize on rising demand for mobile and digital services.
