Automotive giant Stellantis has inaugurated a major expansion of its Kenitra manufacturing facility, investing 1.2 billion euros to double production capacity and achieve 75 percent local integration by 2030, reinforcing Morocco’s position as Africa’s leading automotive hub.
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, who officiated the July 16 ceremony, emphasized that the project embodies Morocco’s New Investment Charter ambitions under King Mohammed VI’s leadership. The expansion will create 3,100 direct jobs while generating substantial socio-economic impact, particularly for youth employment in the region.
“This significant investment, including 702 million euros from suppliers, will double production capacity with a target integration rate of 75 percent by 2030,” Akhannouch stated, highlighting the project’s alignment with national industrial strategies promoting local value chains and competitive economic ecosystems.
Industry Minister Ryad Mezzour noted the expansion consolidates Morocco’s status as a premier automotive platform with production capacity exceeding one million vehicles annually. The project reflects mutual confidence between Morocco and Stellantis, whose partnership began in 2016.
Samir Cherfan, Stellantis Middle East and Africa Operations Director, confirmed the Kenitra facility has exceeded initial objectives. Since its 2019 inauguration, the plant doubled capacity to 200,000 vehicles annually by 2020, three years ahead of schedule.
Recent additions include annual production of 350,000 engines starting May 2025, 70,000 micromobility units including Citroën Ami and Fiat Topolino models, and 204,000 electric vehicle charging stations. The facility now manufactures the innovative three-wheeled electric Fiat Tris, available in chassis-cab, flatbed, and pickup configurations, demonstrating Stellantis’s commitment to emerging high-value segments.
