Morocco’s future LNG terminal will reshape regional energy landscape – The North Africa Post

    adminJuly 9, 2025

Morocco is planning to build a $700 million LNG terminal on its Mediterranean coast, alongside a network of pipelines, a strategic game-changer project that will reshape the regional energy dynamic.

The new pipelines will link the future LNG terminal in Nador City directly to an existing pipeline connecting Morocco to Spain. This strategic connection also aims to serve industrial hubs in Mohammedia and Kenitra cities.

Morocco has launched an international tender for the terminal project and set a deadline of July 23 for companies to submit their proposals.

According to experts, this project is expected to foster Morocco’s position in the global energy market, with its connection to the Morocco-Europe pipeline, which opens up opportunities for increased energy trade with Europe.

Morocco seeks natural gas to diversify energy sources away from coal, as it also pushes ahead with its renewable energy plan aiming to reach 52% of total installed capacity before 2030, from 45% currently.

With the current shift in the global energy demands and market, the North African Kingdom is positioning itself to meet future needs efficiently, offering both environmental and economic benefits.
