Royal Air Maroc Cancels Marseille Flight as Fires Close Airport Royal Air Maroc Cancels Marseille Flight as Fires Close Airport

Flights bound for Marseille faced major setbacks on Tuesday as fast-moving wildfires in southern France forced the closure of the city’s airport.

Authorities shut down runways as flames drew dangerously close, disrupting operations and grounding passengers across several airlines.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced the suspension of its AT732 flight from Casablanca to Marseille.

The airline shared the update on its official X account, stating that the runway closure was temporary and that air traffic could resume after 18:00 UTC.

The fires, which broke out just a few kilometers from the airport, have spread quickly despite the presence of over 1,000 firefighters and water-bombing aircraft.

The heat and wind have made the situation harder to contain. Emergency teams remain on high alert as the region continues to face extreme conditions.

Several homes in the area have already been affected. While officials have yet to release a full damage assessment, early estimates suggest thousands of hectares have burned.

Road traffic also suffered. The A9 motorway, a key link between France and Spain, reopened Tuesday after authorities shut it down the day before due to the spread of the fire.
