A Moroccan diplomatic source said that the Kingdom has engaged, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions addressed to the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, in efforts to identify unaccompanied minors with a view to facilitating their return to Morocco.
The same source stressed that Morocco is ready to coordinate with its Spanish and European partners to facilitate the return of unaccompanied minors.
The source also expressed regret that Morocco is repeatedly accused of failing to cooperate or of being unwilling to receive these minors whenever migration returns to the political agenda, as is currently the case in Spain.
According to the diplomatic source, some political actors are using the issue for electoral purposes, while the reality is different from such allegations.
The source described claims that Morocco is failing to cooperate as “false and unfounded,” stressing that the Kingdom consistently fulfills its commitments and that delays in return procedures are instead linked to administrative and judicial obstacles.
The source further emphasized that Morocco cannot accept the use of this issue as a political pressure tool aimed at portraying the Kingdom as unwilling to cooperate or indifferent to the situation of unaccompanied minors.
The diplomatic source called on partners seeking to facilitate the returns to take internal measures to overcome obstacles arising from their legislation and from their administrative and judicial authorities and procedures.
