Mohamed Chouki, president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), said that the recent events in Ceuta require an approach based on national responsibility, away from political point-scoring or the exploitation of Moroccan public sentiment. He stressed that Moroccan youth need an honest discourse and realistic solutions that can open up future opportunities, rather than messages that fuel despair.
Speaking at a party meeting in Settat, Chouki said the recent events were painful for Moroccans because they involved young people with families, aspirations and dreams. He argued that the responsibility of political actors is to provide hope and work toward solutions that preserve young people’s dignity and offer them better prospects, rather than exploiting such events for short-term political gains.
The RNI leader also stressed that irregular migration has become a global phenomenon that goes far beyond the Moroccan context. He noted that the number of international migrants has now surpassed 300 million and that migration affects every continent, including economically advanced countries, as a result of interconnected economic, social, climate-related and geopolitical factors.
Chouki said that reducing irregular migration to a narrow national reading, or presenting it as an exclusively Moroccan phenomenon, does not help explain its broader dimensions or build sustainable solutions. He argued that the real measure of a state’s ability to address the challenge lies in its capacity to manage migration, protect its youth, create jobs, encourage investment, improve education and training, and provide decent living conditions.
He further noted that Morocco has pursued a path of construction and reform in recent years through major development programmes, the expansion of social protection, the promotion of domestic and foreign investment, and the implementation of strategic projects across the country’s regions. In his view, strengthening the national economy and creating opportunities for young people are among the key ways of addressing the factors driving migration.
Chouki added that serious public policies should be assessed according to their ability to deliver tangible results, rather than through images and content circulating on social media during moments of crisis. He called for continued action and stronger confidence in young people.
The RNI president concluded by reaffirming his party’s commitment to an approach based on construction and solutions rather than exploiting crises, arguing that Morocco’s future requires determination, hard work, confidence in its youth and the continuation of the major development projects led by King Mohammed VI, with the aim of providing dignity and opportunities for all Moroccans.
