Tangier Mobility under scrutiny as residents question progress in urban transport projects

    ayaJuly 22, 2026

Since the establishment of Tangier Mobility to oversee the city’s urban mobility projects, expectations among residents have grown significantly. While several initiatives have been launched to modernize transportation, many users continue to question whether these projects have translated into tangible improvements, citing ongoing challenges related to public transport, traffic congestion, parking availability and communication with citizens.

Bus services remain one of the most frequently discussed issues. Many commuters report overcrowding during peak hours, delays, irregular schedules and long waiting times at bus stops. Observers argue that Tangier’s rapid urban and industrial expansion requires a larger fleet, more frequent services and better operational efficiency to meet rising demand.

Urban planning experts stress that any successful mobility strategy depends on an efficient and reliable public transport network capable of reducing dependence on private vehicles and easing pressure on the city’s road infrastructure.

Although several major roads have undergone improvements in recent years, congestion continues to affect key intersections and access routes, particularly those leading to industrial and commercial areas. Specialists recommend expanding the use of intelligent traffic management systems, improving traffic signal coordination and relying on comprehensive mobility studies.

Parking shortages also remain a major concern for both residents and visitors, prompting calls for additional parking facilities in commercial, administrative and tourist districts to accommodate growing vehicle numbers.

Citizens have also highlighted the need for better communication regarding roadworks, temporary traffic diversions and changes to public transport services through regularly updated digital platforms and real-time notifications.

According to observers, Tangier possesses the necessary foundations to build a modern urban mobility system. However, they believe the next challenge lies in turning announced projects into measurable improvements through transparent governance, continuous project monitoring and transport services that match the ambitions of one of Morocco’s leading economic and logistics hubs.
