Morocco reaffirms commitment to road safety and sustainable development at UN conference

    ayaJuly 20, 2026

Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelsamad Kayouh, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to making road safety a central pillar of its sustainable development strategy during the United Nations Road Safety Fund Donors Conference held at UN headquarters in New York.

Kayouh stressed that Morocco continues to support international efforts aimed at reducing road traffic fatalities and improving global road safety. As Chair of the Advisory Board of the UN Road Safety Fund, Morocco remains actively engaged in strengthening international cooperation and promoting effective road safety policies.

The minister highlighted that protecting motorcycle riders has become a national priority, recalling the initiatives launched during the Fourth Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, hosted in Marrakech in 2025. These include the Mohammed VI International Road Safety Award, the Road Safety Village initiative, and awareness campaigns promoting helmet use.

He noted that the donors conference serves not only to mobilize financial contributions but also to encourage international collaboration and innovative solutions to reduce road accidents and save lives worldwide.

Organized by France and Jamaica in partnership with the United Nations, the conference aims to raise $10.6 million to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the UN Road Safety Fund’s activities during the second half of the Decade of Action for Road Safety.
