Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday the activation of the Central Election Monitoring Committee, in implementation of the Royal Instructions issued by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Minister of the Interior and the President of the Public Prosecution, aimed at ensuring the proper conduct of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23, 2026.
According to the ministry, provincial election monitoring committees have also been activated across the Kingdom’s prefectures and provinces. These bodies bring together walis or governors alongside Prosecutors General or King’s Prosecutors. In addition, regional committees have been established to oversee and coordinate the work of the provincial committees.
The committees are tasked with monitoring every stage of the electoral process, safeguarding the transparency and integrity of the vote, and taking immediate action against any violations that could undermine the credibility of the elections, from the current preparatory phase through to the announcement of the official results.
The Ministry stressed that all committees will carry out their duties in full compliance with Morocco’s legal and regulatory framework, while initiating investigations or judicial proceedings whenever the available evidence so requires.
The statement also noted that the Central Committee will continue adopting a participatory approach by holding meetings with political party leaders whenever necessary to provide updates on the electoral preparations, hear their observations and discuss issues related to the organization of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
