Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has forecast a heatwave affecting several parts of the country from Saturday through Monday, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 46°C, according to an orange-level weather alert.
Temperatures between 44°C and 46°C are expected in the provinces of Oued Eddahab, Assa-Zag, Tata, Zagora and Boujdour. Highs ranging from 40°C to 44°C are also forecast for Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Kelaat Sraghna, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Beni Mellal, Boulemane and Guercif.
Meanwhile, Essaouira is expected to record temperatures between 38°C and 40°C. The meteorological authority has urged residents to take the necessary precautions to cope with the extreme heat during the alert period.
