The “Tayyibat Diet” Sparks Debate Across the Arab World as Experts Warn Against Stopping Medication

    ayaJuly 7, 2026

The so-called “Tayyibat Diet” has sparked widespread debate across several Arab countries following its rapid spread on social media platforms, as health authorities and nutrition experts warn against using the dietary approach as a substitute for prescribed medical treatment, particularly for people living with chronic illnesses.

In this context, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has issued official warnings urging patients not to discontinue prescribed medications without first consulting a healthcare professional. The ministry reported cases that required emergency and intensive care treatment after some patients stopped taking insulin and diabetes medications based on advice circulating online.

The ministry also stated that the “Tayyibat Diet” is not supported by sufficient scientific evidence demonstrating its effectiveness in treating chronic diseases. It warned that eliminating entire food groups from one’s diet may result in nutritional deficiencies and increase the risk of serious health complications.

The debate has also reached Egypt, where several members of parliament have called for tighter oversight of advertisements and businesses promoting the “Tayyibat Diet” as a therapeutic solution. Lawmakers also urged authorities to address unsubstantiated health claims circulating on social media platforms.

According to its promoters, the diet is based on consuming foods described as natural or closer to traditional eating habits while avoiding various processed foods and several commonly consumed products. These ideas have gained significant attention in recent months through online videos and digital content shared across social media platforms.

Nutrition specialists emphasize that a healthy diet should be based on balance and dietary diversity rather than the exclusion of entire food groups without medical justification. They also warn that relying on unverified advice may lead some patients to stop taking medication for diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure, potentially exposing them to serious health risks.

Health experts further note that social media has become a major source of health information for many people. However, much of the content shared online is not subject to scientific review, making it essential to verify information and seek professional medical advice before adopting any new diet or making changes to an existing treatment plan.

In Morocco, physicians and nutrition specialists are also encouraging the public to approach popular online diets with caution. They stress that any change to a person’s diet or prescribed treatment should be made under medical supervision, particularly for individuals living with chronic health conditions.

Experts agree that adhering to prescribed medical treatment, maintaining a balanced diet and consulting qualified healthcare professionals remain the safest approach to protecting health and preventing complications. They also caution against replacing evidence-based medical recommendations with unverified information circulating on digital platforms.
