Police in Tangier have arrested a 25-year-old repeat offender suspected of violently robbing a young woman of her mobile phone in the Beni Makada district.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the suspect attacking the victim while she was waiting for a workers’ shuttle bus. After assaulting her, he allegedly snatched her mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Although no formal complaint had initially been filed, police immediately launched an investigation after detecting the video online. Field inquiries and technical investigations enabled officers to quickly identify and locate the suspect.
He was arrested while reportedly under the influence of intoxicating substances. Police later contacted the victim, recorded her statement and officially registered her complaint in accordance with legal procedures.
The suspect has been placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor while investigators continue examining the circumstances of the case and determining whether he may have been involved in similar criminal acts.
The operation highlights the Moroccan security services’ rapid response to crimes documented on social media and their continued efforts to protect citizens and combat street crime.
