Moroccan National Security officers operating at Tangier Med Port foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of psychotropic drugs into the country on Tuesday evening, June 30, 2026, seizing 14,245 medical tablets of different types and arresting the truck driver suspected of involvement.
The operation was carried out during a routine inspection conducted by National Security officers, assisted by trained police dogs, aboard a Moroccan-registered international freight truck that had arrived by ferry from a Spanish port. A thorough search led to the discovery of the concealed shipment hidden inside the truck’s structure.
According to security authorities, the seized shipment consisted of 11,145 tablets of the drug “RIVOTRIL” and 3,100 tablets of “TRANKIMAZINE”.
The Moroccan truck driver was taken into police custody as part of a judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine all the circumstances surrounding the case and identify any possible national or international criminal connections.
The operation forms part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking, psychotropic substances smuggling, and other forms of cross-border organized crime.
