The beaches of Tangier and the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar hosted another decisive day of racing on Friday as the Optimist World Championship moved closer to its conclusion, with the city continuing to receive widespread international praise for its organization and world-class infrastructure.
Friday’s races were held under ideal sailing conditions, with moderate to strong winds and favorable sea currents allowing the race committee to conduct highly competitive races that tested the tactical skills and endurance of the young sailors representing countries from across the globe.
Competition intensified during the Final Series in both the Gold and Silver fleets, where the leading sailors battled to consolidate their positions while avoiding costly mistakes that could dramatically alter the standings in the closing stages of the championship. Sailors from traditional sailing powerhouses, particularly the United States, Italy, and Spain, once again delivered consistent performances to remain at the top of the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, Moroccan and other Arab sailors continued to display determination and competitive spirit, benefiting from home support while gaining valuable experience by competing alongside the world’s elite Optimist sailors.
As the championship approaches its final day, the International Optimist Dinghy Association and participating delegations have praised Tangier’s outstanding organization, logistical efficiency, and sporting facilities, further strengthening Morocco’s reputation as a leading destination for hosting major international sailing events.
