The Tangier Observatory for Environmental and Historical Heritage Protection has announced the launch of a new initiative entitled “Low-Carbon Tangier”, aimed at supporting the city’s sustainable environmental transition as Morocco prepares to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement issued by the Observatory, the initiative seeks to combine environmental protection, preservation of Tangier’s historical and cultural heritage, and sustainable economic development in line with international environmental and urban standards.
The Observatory also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the city’s historical and architectural heritage while supporting efforts to have Tangier included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a way to strengthen its cultural and tourism profile.
The statement noted that the Observatory has organized five forums dedicated to the theme “Tangier Sustainable City” in recent years, adding that a recent conference on industrial decarbonization, held in partnership with the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, together with a petition submitted to the Regional Council for the adoption of a regional low-carbon strategy, marks a new phase in this environmental initiative.
The Observatory stated that reducing carbon emissions can also contribute to industrial modernization, attract responsible investment, improve business competitiveness and create new jobs linked to the green economy.
