European Heatwave Reaches Morocco as Temperatures Expected to Hit 46°C

    ayaJune 25, 2026

Morocco is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures as the intense heatwave affecting several European countries extends its influence across North Africa. The Moroccan Meteorological Department has warned that hot weather conditions will persist in the coming days, with temperatures expected to reach up to 46°C in some southern and southeastern regions.

According to weather officials, the Saharan thermal low-pressure system continues to push hot and dry air masses toward the country, leading to soaring temperatures in inland areas, while coastal regions remain relatively cooler thanks to the moderating influence of the Atlantic Ocean.

Forecasts indicate temperatures ranging between 40°C and 46°C in the southeast and southern provinces, while eastern and central inland regions could see highs between 34°C and 41°C. Localized thunderstorms are also expected over mountainous areas and parts of eastern Morocco during the weekend.

Climate experts note that the increasing frequency and intensity of heatwaves in both Europe and North Africa reflect the growing impact of climate change, which is contributing to more extreme weather events and record-breaking temperatures across the Mediterranean region.
