A new U.S. defense bill approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee calls on the Department of Defense to develop a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening military cooperation with Morocco over the next ten years.
Under the proposed legislation, the U.S. Secretary of Defense would be required to submit a detailed plan to Congress within 180 days of the law taking effect, outlining measures to deepen defense cooperation under the 2026–2036 Morocco–U.S. defense roadmap.
The initiative follows the signing of the bilateral defense roadmap in Washington during the 14th session of the Morocco–U.S. Defense Consultative Committee, which brought together senior civilian and military officials from both countries.
The proposal includes potential measures related to counterterrorism cooperation, military modernization, advanced training programs, and the integration of emerging defense technologies.
It also calls for studying additional security cooperation mechanisms in Morocco to support regional stability, as well as the possible creation of a center of excellence focused on unmanned aerial systems and modern defense capabilities.
If ultimately approved through the legislative process, the bill could mark a significant step forward in the strategic defense partnership between Morocco and the United States.
