Morocco to End Daylight Saving Time as Government Returns to GMT

    ayaJune 25, 2026

Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced on Thursday, June 25, 2026, that Morocco will return to its legal time zone, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and discontinue the additional hour currently in use, starting at the end of the summer season.

Speaking during a press briefing following the Government Council meeting, Akhannouch said the decision was taken in response to requests expressed by citizens regarding the current time system.

He explained that the issue had been discussed within the governing majority and evaluated through a review of the various effects associated with the additional-hour system.

According to the Prime Minister, the government considered observations and feedback expressed over recent years before deciding to restore the Kingdom’s legal GMT time beginning at the end of summer.
