Domestic Tourism in Morocco Surpasses 4 Million Overnight Stays by End of May

    ayaJune 25, 2026

Domestic tourism in Morocco continued its upward trend during the first five months of 2026, with more than 4 million overnight stays recorded by the end of May, according to figures presented by Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor.

The minister stated that domestic overnight stays increased by 2 percent compared to the same period in 2025, highlighting the key role played by Moroccan travelers in supporting the national tourism industry.

She noted that domestic tourism accounted for 28 percent of all overnight stays recorded in 2025, emphasizing the importance of developing tourism products and services that meet the expectations of Moroccan visitors.

As part of the national tourism roadmap for 2023-2026, several programs have been dedicated to nature tourism and beach tourism, in addition to initiatives promoting Moroccan gastronomy, local products, cultural festivals, handicrafts, alternative accommodation, and sustainable development.

According to the minister, ongoing efforts aim to transform domestic tourism into a year-round activity across all regions of the Kingdom through increased accommodation capacity, stronger investment incentives, improved air connectivity, and enhanced professional training within the sector.
