Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has warned of a heatwave expected to affect several regions of the Kingdom from Monday through Wednesday, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 44°C in some provinces under an orange-level weather alert.
According to the meteorological bulletin, temperatures ranging between 39°C and 42°C are expected on Monday in the provinces of Taza, Taounate, Khemisset, Khenifra, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, and Settat.
A more intense heatwave is forecast from Monday to Wednesday in Errachidia, Jerada, Taourirt, Figuig, Zagora, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, Aousserd, Guercif, Boulemane, Assa-Zag, and Smara, where temperatures may range between 40°C and 44°C.
The weather authority also warned of locally strong thunderstorms in parts of the Middle Atlas region, with rainfall amounts expected to range between 20 and 30 millimeters and potentially accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts.
These weather disturbances are expected to affect the provinces of Khenifra, Ifrane, and Sefrou on Monday between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
The Directorate encouraged residents to monitor updated weather forecasts and official alerts issued by the relevant authorities.
