Mbappé Makes History as France Open World Cup Campaign with Win over Senegal

    ayaJune 17, 2026

France began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Senegal in East Rutherford, United States, during the opening round of the group stage.

Kylian Mbappé was the standout performer, scoring twice to help secure the win for the French side. According to the reported figures, the forward increased his international tally to 58 goals, becoming France’s all-time leading scorer and surpassing the previous record held by Olivier Giroud.

After a closely contested first half, France capitalized on their attacking opportunities. Mbappé opened the scoring following an assist from Michael Olise and later added his second goal with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area during stoppage time.

The result gives France a positive start to their World Cup journey and strengthens their position ahead of the upcoming group-stage fixtures, while Senegal will look to bounce back in their next matches.
