FIFA Appoints Uzbek Referee for Morocco-Scotland World Cup Clash

    ayaJune 16, 2026

FIFA’s Referees Committee has appointed Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev to officiate the upcoming World Cup match between Morocco and Scotland, scheduled for June 19 in Boston as part of the second round of Group C fixtures at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Tantashev will be assisted by fellow Uzbeks Andrey Tsapenko and Timur Gaynulin, while Jordanian official Adham Makhadmeh will serve as the fourth official, supported by Mohammad Al Khalaf as reserve assistant referee.

The 42-year-old referee is regarded as one of Asia’s experienced officials, having overseen numerous continental and international matches in recent years.

Tantashev previously officiated Morocco’s Olympic semifinal against Spain at the Paris 2024 Games and also took charge of the AFC Champions League final last season.

The Morocco-Scotland encounter carries significant importance in the race for qualification from Group C, with Morocco seeking to build on its opening draw against Brazil and Scotland aiming to maintain momentum after its first-round victory over Haiti.
