Morocco’s agricultural sector is facing growing challenges linked to a shortage of skilled labor and rising labor costs, a situation that is affecting the progress of the current harvest season in several parts of the country.
According to information from sector stakeholders, many farmers are struggling to secure enough seasonal workers at the right time and at costs compatible with their production requirements.
In response, a number of agricultural operators have increased their reliance on modern farming machinery to speed up harvesting operations and reduce dependence on traditional labor, despite the additional investment and operating costs involved.
Some farmers have also turned to workers from Sub-Saharan African countries in an effort to address seasonal labor shortages and maintain agricultural activities during the harvest period.
This issue comes at a time when Morocco’s agricultural sector is facing a range of climate-related and economic challenges, making workforce availability a key factor in maintaining agricultural production and ensuring the success of future farming seasons.
