Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced on Saturday the arrest of a 31-year-old man in the city of M’diq as part of a security operation based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
According to an official statement, preliminary investigations and security monitoring activities indicated that the suspect adhered to the extremist ideology promoted by the organization ISIS. Investigators also reported indications that he had engaged in preparations related to suspected terrorist projects.
Authorities stated that the inquiry uncovered efforts to acquire knowledge associated with the manufacture of explosive devices, as part of an investigation into alleged plans that could target individuals, public order, and strategic facilities.
The suspect has been placed in police custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism-related cases, pending the continuation of the judicial investigation aimed at clarifying all circumstances surrounding the case and identifying any potential connections.
The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts to prevent extremist threats and strengthen public safety.
