Officers from Morocco’s National Judicial Police Brigade, acting on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt and seized 2.96 tonnes of cannabis resin.
The operation was carried out near the city of Ben Slimane, where authorities intercepted a utility vehicle transporting the illicit shipment. According to available information, the driver allegedly travelled in the opposite direction on a motorway before abandoning the vehicle near Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 75 packages of cannabis resin, with a combined weight of 2,960 kilograms.
A judicial investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to identify and locate the driver, as well as to determine any possible links to a broader criminal network.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Moroccan security services to combat international drug trafficking and strengthen the fight against organized cross-border crime.
