Construction works on the seawater desalination plant in the Casablanca-Settat region continue to advance steadily, marking significant progress in one of Morocco’s largest strategic water infrastructure projects.
Current operations along the coastline focus on the development of marine infrastructure dedicated to seawater intake and discharge systems. This stage involves the use of specialized offshore drilling equipment and platforms, as well as the installation of marine pipelines extending over four kilometres.
The project forms part of Morocco’s broader strategy to address water stress, diversify water resources, and strengthen long-term water security in response to recurring drought conditions and growing demand.
Once operational, the desalination plant is expected to provide substantial quantities of drinking water to residents and economic sectors across the Casablanca-Settat region, one of the Kingdom’s most densely populated and economically active areas.
The initiative also reflects Morocco’s commitment to investing in sustainable technological solutions and modern water infrastructure to ensure efficient resource management and secure future water supplies.
