KPMG Report Ranks Tangier Med as Europe’s Fifth-Busiest Port for Ship Calls

    ayaMay 30, 2026

A 2026 shipping report published by KPMG ranked Tangier Med Port fifth among European ports in terms of ship calls during 2025, recording a total of 16,436 vessel calls.

According to the report, the ranking was led by Port of Rotterdam with 29,659 calls, followed by Port of Algeciras, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Piraeus.

The report highlighted Tangier Med’s strategic location near the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors and a key gateway connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

It also reviewed major developments in the global shipping sector, noting that the worldwide merchant fleet reached 115,999 vessels in 2026 with a combined carrying capacity of 2.539 billion tons, while China remained the leading country in terms of commercial fleet value.

The findings place Tangier Med among the leading maritime hubs serving international shipping routes and global trade networks.
