Officers from Morocco’s National Security services and Customs authorities operating at Tangier Med Port intercepted an alleged attempt to smuggle psychotropic substances into the country during the early hours of Saturday, May 30, following a border control operation at the port.
According to available information, authorities seized 1,571 medical tablets classified as psychotropic substances of various types. The pills were discovered inside a light vehicle bearing foreign registration plates that had arrived on a maritime route from a European port.
Search and inspection procedures carried out by security and customs officers led to the recovery and seizure of the substances, while the relevant legal measures were subsequently initiated.
The operation also resulted in the detention of the vehicle’s driver and a passenger, one of whom holds Spanish nationality. Both individuals are subject to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the case and identify any potential national or international connections.
