Border Control Operation at Bab Sebta Leads to Seizure of Large Shipment of Used Phones

    ayaMay 16, 2026

Customs services, in coordination with security officers at the Bab Sebta border crossing, foiled on Friday evening an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of used mobile phones concealed inside a light vehicle.

According to available information, inspection and monitoring operations led to the seizure of 294 used phones from various brands, which were discovered inside secret compartments carefully prepared within the seats of a Mercedes vehicle bearing Spanish Balearic Islands registration plates.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of the vehicle’s driver, a 44-year-old Moroccan national residing in Spain, on suspicion of involvement in an attempt to illegally introduce the phones into Moroccan territory.

The suspect was placed under the legal procedures in force under the supervision of the competent authorities, in order to deepen the investigation and determine all circumstances surrounding the case.
