Tangier Hosts Legal Forum on Customs Disputes and Economic Challenges

    ayaMay 15, 2026

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Tangier organized a study day on customs disputes this Friday, in partnership with the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration, bringing together judicial officials, customs executives, researchers and students.

The event focused on several legal and judicial issues related to customs litigation, including administrative court oversight, tax base disputes in customs matters, legal challenges linked to the recovery of public debts, and the legal nature of customs fines.

Speaking during the meeting, the First President of the Administrative Court of Appeal in Tangier, Abdel Attaq Fekir, stated that the customs system has held an important place in Moroccan policy since independence, noting that its role now goes beyond tax collection to include protecting the national economy and combating economic crimes.

He also stressed that customs disputes require in-depth analysis and specialized training due to the complexity of procedures and the overlap between administrative, financial and criminal jurisdictions.

For his part, the Director General of the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration, Abdelatif Amrani, in a speech delivered on his behalf, said that customs disputes are becoming increasingly important given the central role of customs administration within the country’s economic and financial system.

He added that the growth of international trade and cross-border financial transactions calls for a balanced approach that protects public finances while safeguarding the rights of users and economic operators.
