A police officer assigned to the mobile motorcycle unit of the Sidi Bernoussi security district in Casablanca was forced to use his service weapon during the early hours of Thursday, May 14, 2026, while attempting to arrest a 35-year-old man considered a threat to public safety.
According to a security source, a police patrol intervened after the suspect, allegedly in an advanced state of intoxication, caused disturbances in a public street, obstructed traffic and threatened the safety of people and property.
The same source stated that the suspect reportedly resisted arrest violently, prompting the officer to fire two warning shots before discharging a third round that struck the suspect in the thigh.
The intervention allowed police to neutralize the threat and secure the suspect, who was later transferred to a local hospital where he remains under medical supervision while receiving treatment.
A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
