Morocco has decided to temporarily suspend soft wheat imports during June and July 2026, following positive forecasts for the current agricultural season and expectations of improved national cereal production.
The decision comes as harvest and storage operations for local production are set to begin, amid improved rainfall conditions that positively impacted cereal cultivation across several agricultural regions in the country.
According to available data, Morocco imported around 17 million quintals of soft wheat during the first four months of 2026, reflecting an ongoing balance between imports and domestic production to meet national demand.
Abdelkader Alaoui, president of the National Federation of Milling, stated that the temporary suspension aims to facilitate the collection and marketing of the national wheat harvest while reducing pressure on storage capacities during the harvest period.
He added that priority will be given to domestic production during this phase, noting that wheat imports could resume in August if local quantities prove insufficient to meet consumption needs.
