The city of Tangier hosted on Wednesday a joint Moroccan-Spanish meeting dedicated to preparations for Marhaba 2026, the annual operation aimed at facilitating the summer travel of Moroccans residing abroad.
The meeting was co-chaired by Khalid Zerouali, director of migration and border control at Morocco’s Ministry of Interior, and Virginia Barcones Sanz, secretary general for civil protection and emergencies at Spain’s Ministry of Interior.
Discussions focused on the operational and organizational measures adopted by both countries to ensure smooth transit conditions, including traffic flow management, safety and security procedures, and coordination among the various institutions involved.
The two sides also reviewed plans related to maritime transport capacity and investments aimed at upgrading port and airport infrastructure, in addition to the mobilization of Moroccan consular services in Spain to assist members of the Moroccan community abroad.
Spanish authorities also presented measures intended to strengthen port reception capacities, deploy additional security personnel, and establish coordination, rest and guidance centers for travelers.
