Tangier hosts a rich cultural program at Riad Sultan Theatre this May

    ayaMay 4, 2026

Riad Sultan Theatre in Tangier is presenting a rich and diverse cultural and artistic program throughout May 2026 as part of the third edition of the Mediterranean Jacaranda Spring festival, an annual event dedicated to celebrating creative expression and fostering artistic exchange across cultures.

According to a statement from the theatre, the program features a wide range of activities including concerts, theatre performances, film screenings, intellectual discussions and training workshops, reflecting a commitment to making the venue a permanent space for artistic dialogue and cultural interaction.

On May 12, the theatre will host a special day combining intellectual exchange and cinema in partnership with the Cervantes Institute, where audiences will have the opportunity to engage with researcher and translator Lin Amsellem in a discussion about her experience translating the works of Federico García Lorca into French, as well as her research on Judeo-Spanish memory in northern Morocco, followed by a screening of the documentary “Haketia Haketia”, co-directed with Pierre-Emmanuel Dersoir-Vermand.

The program continues on May 15 with a theatre-focused event that includes the presentation and signing of the book “Virtual Theatre: From Subversion to Transgression” by critic Fawzia El Beid, followed by the performance of the play “Economic Citizen”, written by Ahmed Sebiaa and directed by Mahmoud Chahdi, which explores social realities through a creative approach combining text, visual elements and music inspired by everyday Moroccan life.

Music will take center stage again on May 21 with a nostalgic evening titled “Dalal Bernoussi Sings Hussein Slaoui”, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of Moroccan popular music, accompanied by a musical ensemble in a performance called “The Moroccan Odyssey”, blending Andalusian, Spanish and gypsy jazz influences.

In addition, the theatre continues to organize training workshops open to various audiences, including acting sessions, contemporary dance classes and circus and theatre workshops for children and young people, aimed at encouraging creativity and collaborative spirit.

Through this program, Riad Sultan Theatre reinforces its role as a cultural hub committed to promoting artistic diversity and contributing to the cultural vitality of Tangier.
