Two members of the Royal Gendarmerie were injured, one seriously, on Sunday night during a security operation in the commune of Ait Mait in Driouch province, aimed at arresting a suspect wanted in connection with hard drug trafficking cases, according to informed sources.
The same sources indicated that the suspect, who was accompanied by two other individuals, used a firearm against the officers during the operation, resulting in one gendarme being injured by bullet fragments, while another sustained injuries of varying severity.
The injured officers were transferred to the provincial hospital to receive necessary medical care, while gendarmerie units launched search operations in the area, supported by additional reinforcements, to track down the suspects who fled following the incident.
A judicial investigation has been opened by the competent public prosecutor to determine the circumstances of the case, identify potential links, and apprehend all individuals involved.
