Local authorities in Tetouan reported that two children died in the early hours of Saturday following the partial collapse of a residential building in the old medina, which housed five families totaling 11 people.
Authorities, security services, and civil protection teams rushed to the scene after being alerted, launching search and rescue operations while securing the surrounding area.
The operations led to the recovery of the body of a 10-year-old child, while an 8-year-old girl was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries.
The competent public prosecutor’s office was notified in order to open an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
