The Justice and Development Party has announced its support for scrapping the daylight saving time (GMT+1), stating that its position carries no political interpretation, amid ongoing public debate on the issue.
In a statement, the party said the time system lacks broad public acceptance and highlighted its impact on daily life.
The move comes as Morocco has maintained this system since 2018 under the government led by Saad Dine El Otmani.
Meanwhile, Abdelilah Benkirane said the party’s stance reflects a normal engagement with a public concern, without political motives.
Political analyst Rachid Lazrak noted that the issue has evolved beyond a technical matter into a broader social concern.
