The National Observatory for Human Development warned about the implications of demographic shifts in Morocco, noting that declining fertility rates and rising singlehood, alongside challenges in education, healthcare, and employment, may impact human development prospects, according to a policy note based on the 2024 population census.
The report highlights a slowdown in population growth combined with increased life expectancy, leading to an aging population, as well as shrinking household sizes and continued urbanization.
It also points to regional disparities, with stronger demographic dynamics along the Atlantic axis, while rural areas experience slower growth influenced by environmental factors.
The note emphasizes the importance of investing in human capital to address these demographic changes and support sustainable development.
