In a new development regarding the Africa Cup of Nations case, a representative of the Senegalese federation’s legal team stated that the national team does not intend to return the trophy, during a press conference held in Paris.
Lawyer Sidou Diané said that the decision of the appeals committee of the Confederation of African Football does not include any reference to withdrawing the title or returning the medals, considering this point as supporting Senegal’s position.
He added that the appeal filed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport goes beyond the details of the ruling and addresses a broader legal principle concerning whether a final decision can be overturned by a disciplinary body.
According to the same source, the Senegalese defense argues that the lack of reasoning in the notified decision makes it unenforceable under Swiss law.
He also mentioned plans to file a corruption complaint against five individuals without disclosing their identities, while stressing that no accusations are directed at Morocco.
Meanwhile, the operative part of the appeals committee’s decision states that Senegal withdrew and was declared to have lost by three goals to nil, a key element in the ongoing dispute pending arbitration.
