Egypt Eases Entry Requirements for Moroccan Travelers

Marrakech – Egypt’s embassy in Rabat has announced new measures simplifying entry procedures for Moroccan citizens, allowing eligible travelers to obtain visas upon arrival instead of applying beforehand.

According to the announcement shared on the embassy’s Facebook page, Moroccan nationals holding valid residency permits in Schengen countries, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Japan, or the United Kingdom can now enter Egypt without obtaining a visa in advance.

This facilitation also extends to Moroccans who have previously used visas for these countries. Additionally, Moroccan citizens residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can receive entry visas upon arrival, provided they have valid residency permits and return visas.

The Egyptian embassy stated that these measures aim to strengthen ties between the two nations and make travel more accessible for Moroccan citizens.

For travelers considering Egypt as a destination, the country offers numerous attractions that draw millions of visitors annually. In 2024, Egypt welcomed a record 15.7 million tourists, up from 14.9 million in 2023. Tourism revenue also saw significant growth, with international visitor spending reaching EGP 726.9 billion ($23.5 billion) last year.

Egypt’s appeal stems from its rich historical sites and diverse experiences. The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx remain among the most iconic landmarks. Other notable attractions include the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, ancient temples such as Karnak and Abu Simbel, and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Many tourists opt for Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan to view temples and scenic landscapes. The country also features historic Islamic and Coptic sites in Cairo, desert landscapes with distinctive oases, and popular Red Sea resorts known for diving and snorkeling.

For Moroccan travelers considering costs, travel expenses vary based on preferences. Flights from Morocco to Egypt can range from as low as $75 one-way during special promotions to around $534 for average return fares, with February typically offering the best rates.

Daily expenses in Egypt for budget travelers start around $50 for basic accommodations and meals, while mid-range options might require $150-200 daily. A modest 7-day trip could cost between $500-1,200 or more, depending on travel style and activities included.

The new visa policy comes as Egypt projects receiving approximately 18 million tourists by the end of 2025, boosted by attractions like the new Grand Egyptian Museum near the Giza Pyramids.
