New Essaouira-Seville Route Link Boosts City’s Connectivity

Rabat — An aircraft from Spanish airline Vueling landed on Saturday at Essaouira-Mogador International Airport.

This marks the official inauguration of a new air route connecting Seville, Spain, to the “City of Trade Winds.”

This new service, operating once weekly every Saturday, strengthens Essaouira’s connectivity and consolidates its position on the international tourism map.

A ceremony took place at the airport to mark the occasion. Several local officials, tourism operators, and Vueling representatives attended to celebrate this new connection that reflects growing interest from European travelers in the Pearl of the Atlantic.

In a statement to Morocco’s official agency (MAP), the president of the Provincial Tourism Council, Redouane Khane, welcomed this launch, noting that it represents the first direct link between Essaouira and Seville.

“This route represents a major opportunity for the Andalusian market, historically close to our region, and will help diversify our tourist clientele while strengthening Essaouira’s visibility looking toward 2026,” he said.

Khane furthermore expressed gratitude to the institutional and private partners who contributed to making this new air route a reality, particularly commending the role of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) for its “tireless efforts” in promoting Essaouira as a destination.

Speaking to MAP, several passengers welcomed the opening of this direct route, pointing to the time savings, comfort, and proximity it offers between the two shores.

This inauguration comes amid strong traffic growth at Essaouira-Mogador Airport, which recorded a 48.62% increase in passenger traffic last September, with 29,410 travelers welcomed compared to 19,789 during the same period in 2024.

Airport management data indicated that aircraft movements also showed significant growth of 53.52%, rising from 142 to 218 flights, including both arrivals and departures.

Thanks to this new connection, Essaouira-Mogador Airport is now linked to around ten international destinations, primarily in Europe, including Paris, London, Brussels, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Düsseldorf, Madrid, and Seville, in addition to a regular domestic route to Rabat.

This new route is part of an overall strategy to strengthen accessibility to Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage city whose cultural and tourism profile continues to grow on the international stage.
