Two-year sentence for a director and employee after an infant’s death in Tangier

    ayaApril 24, 2026

The criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal in Tangier sentenced a nursery director and an employee to two years in prison each, in connection with the death of an infant in the facility.

According to case details, the court based its ruling on findings related to inadequate supervision of the child, in a context marked by the absence of proper safety conditions within a childcare setting.

The information indicates that the supervision of the infant had been assigned to a minor, which led to the victim’s fall and serious injuries resulting in internal bleeding, as presented during the trial.

The court classified the acts as endangering a vulnerable minor leading to death, as well as operating a childcare facility outside the legal framework.

Regarding the minor involved, she was released and handed over to her legal guardian due to the absence of criminal intent.

The case has sparked renewed discussion about childcare facilities operating outside legal regulations and safety standards.
