King Mohammed VI Names New Religious Council Secretary

    ayaApril 14, 2026

King Mohammed VI appointed on Tuesday Dr. El Yazid Radi as Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Ulema, a move that falls within efforts to strengthen the institution’s role in overseeing religious affairs in Morocco.

According to a statement from the Royal Cabinet, the appointment comes as part of reinforcing the Council’s responsibilities as a central body, particularly amid challenges related to renewing religious discourse and ensuring its alignment with Morocco’s religious framework.

In this regard, the King, in his capacity as Commander of the Faithful, issued directives to the newly appointed official, calling for the preservation of Islam and the promotion of its values of moderation and tolerance, while ensuring continuity in the Council’s guidance and supervisory roles.

In the same context, the King awarded Mohammed Yessef, former Secretary General of the Council, the Order of the Throne at the rank of Grand Officer, in recognition of his services across various responsibilities.

This appointment reflects the ongoing institutional efforts in Morocco to preserve religious constants and promote balanced values within society.
