An 11-year-old girl has died at the provincial hospital in Azilal after suffering complications caused by a snakebite she sustained about a week earlier, according to local sources.
The girl was reportedly bitten on the face and rushed to hospital in critical condition, where she received emergency treatment and was admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite seven days of intensive medical care, she passed away.
In a separate incident, a member of the Auxiliary Forces was stung by a scorpion and initially treated at a local health center before being transferred to the regional hospital in Beni Mellal for further medical care. The incidents highlight the recurring risks posed by snakebites and scorpion stings in Morocco’s rural and mountainous areas during the summer season.
