Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General of Morocco’s Istiqlal Party, has announced that fighting corruption and conflicts of interest will be a central pillar of the party’s upcoming electoral program, stressing that adopting a policy of “zero tolerance for corruption” is essential to strengthening transparency and rebuilding public trust in state institutions.
Speaking at a national conference in Salé on combating corruption in Morocco, Baraka said the country should move beyond diagnosing governance challenges and focus on implementing practical reforms. He called for simplifying legal and administrative procedures, accelerating the adoption of implementing decrees, strengthening anti-corruption institutions, and introducing a dedicated law on conflicts of interest during the next legislative term.
He also proposed reviewing the system governing licenses and privileges, linking public support to the public interest, and promoting a culture of integrity and good governance. Baraka highlighted the Ministry of Equipment and Water’s digital project-monitoring initiative as an example of transparency and emphasized the importance of involving young people in strengthening accountability.
