Morocco has officially launched the Moroccan Cultural Week in Bangkok, a cultural and economic initiative organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Thailand in partnership with the Chambers of Crafts of the Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi regions, and in coordination with the State Secretariat in charge of Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy. Held to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day, the event aims to promote Morocco’s rich cultural heritage while expanding economic and institutional cooperation with Thailand.
The opening ceremony featured the inauguration of the Moroccan Pavilion, attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Thailand Abderrahim Rahhali, Moroccan and Thai officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Moroccan community. The pavilion includes around thirty exhibition stands displaying a wide range of traditional Moroccan products, including carpets, caftans, ceramics, zellige tiles, leather goods, and handcrafted wooden artworks, highlighting the diversity and excellence of Moroccan craftsmanship.
Jalila Mersli, President of the Casablanca-Settat Chamber of Crafts, emphasized that the exhibition is far more than a showcase of handmade products. It serves as a window into Morocco’s cultural identity and reflects the strategic role that handicrafts now play in sustainable development, entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, youth employment, and international cultural cooperation.
For his part, Hassan Chmès, President of the Marrakech-Safi Chamber of Crafts, explained that the event offers Thai visitors the opportunity to discover Morocco through live artisan demonstrations, interactive workshops, traditional caftan fashion shows, and a rich cultural program celebrating the Kingdom’s artistic heritage.
Ambassador Abderrahim Rahhali stressed that Moroccan handicrafts are one of the country’s strongest cultural assets, reflecting the diversity of Morocco’s regions and centuries-old traditions. He noted that Moroccan artisans have successfully preserved traditional techniques while continuously adapting them to meet international market standards, making the sector a key driver of both economic and cultural development.
The event also features workshops on Moroccan zellige, calligraphy, weaving, pottery, traditional cuisine, tea ceremonies, and pastry tastings, in addition to a major Moroccan caftan fashion show. Alongside the cultural activities, institutional and business meetings are being held between Moroccan and Thai stakeholders to explore new partnerships in handicrafts, creative industries, trade, investment, and technical cooperation.
Through this initiative, Morocco reinforces its commitment to cultural diplomacy as a powerful tool for strengthening international partnerships, promoting its artisanal heritage worldwide, and creating new opportunities for Moroccan craftsmen and businesses across Asian markets.
